Click HERE for the link to downloading the Teacher’s Pet font * Note: I’ve had plenty of messages regarding the font that does not want to download for some reason. The first one is called TeachersPet, and this font is perfect for teaching children the correct way to make all the letters in Grades R and 1. I recently found the following awesome fonts which is ideal for teaching learners in Grades 1 to 3 to write correctly, and I’ll gladly share these with you. I went through so many different fonts! For the cursive writing, I had real trouble finding a font that has the correct r for what we teach in South Africa… But wait, perseverance finally paid off… Some of the fonts that I found made the y wrong, and others had a different t. I sometimes have a very specific idea in mind, and now that I started teaching, I found how important it is to have a font that shows exactly the right way to make the alphabet.

One of my favourite pastime activities is creating / designing my own school resources. The correct foundation is VERY important, especially for correct handwriting.įor quite some time I have been trying to find a font which illustrates the correct letter shapes for the South African context. I had to explain to him that people may get confused and think he wrote a 7, and fortunately that explanation worked! (Since then he’s made his ones correctly.) Another girl in Grade 2 are super excited to start writing “fancy” cursive letters, and she was also very confused when the letters in the magazines doesn’t look like what I tried to teach her. If it is protected, it cannot be embedded in a Word document. One of the learners in my classroom recently made the number “1” in the shape of a “7”, saying that his mom writes like that.

If you are curious about whether a particular font can be embedded, you can either contact the vendor or download a free Font Properties Editor from Microsoft. In addition, not all fonts are "embeddable." Some fonts are protected by their creators against distribution by embedding. In fact, if you use a lot of fonts, it can increase the size drastically. You should realize that embedding fonts can increase the size of your document files.

One solution is to include the fonts with your document. If they don't have the fonts, then Word substitutes a similar font for the original fonts you used. If you create a document that you want to share with others, it is helpful for the other people to have the fonts you use within your document.
